Yoga at The Clubhouse at Prieta Beach began simply, with a few people gathering on the beach to stretch, breathe, and enjoy what Kevin Arias describes as a “gym for the mind.” Over time, more members joined, classes filled, and a quiet ritual became an important part of community life.

Along with Kevin, Monica Diaz helped lead that early momentum, building a loyal following and shaping a sense of connection around the practice. When beach classes became less practical, a small wooden deck was created to accommodate about 12 people. Even then, it was clear that yoga and wellness were becoming something much bigger within the community.

Today, that vision has taken shape in Espira, Papagayo Park’s new dedicated wellness shala. Designed by Arquitectura Mixta, the same firm behind the shala at Four Seasons, Espira represents years of growth, consistency, and shared intention. Set in a striking location with expansive views, the space is designed not only for yoga and movement, but also for ceremonies and intimate weddings.

For Kevin, who has practiced yoga for eight years and completed a 300-hour Hatha certification, the impact of yoga extends far beyond the mat. His practice led him to pranayama and eventually freediving, where breathwork became essential. But its greatest value, he says, is in everyday life. “Reducing the fluctuations of your mind, all of the thoughts that have nothing to do with what you are currently doing, connecting with yourself is the most important part of yoga.”

That philosophy now anchors Espira’s growing program. Monica teaches Vinyasa, Kevin leads Hatha, Manuel Guevara teaches Mat Pilates and Body Sculpt, and Gaelle Brian Quéré brings Gentle Yoga, Kids Yoga, and Sound Healing to the schedule. Together, the offerings create a wellness experience that complements the hotels while giving members a space of their own, a place to step away from the pace of the day, reconnect, and build lasting routines.

With four classes offered each week to members only, plus additional classes available to the greater Peninsula Papagayo community, Espira is designed to make wellness both accessible and consistent. More than a new amenity, it is the realization of a long held dream, proof that small waves, over time, can grow into something truly transformative.
