Peninsula Papagayo

Epic Land & Sea Odyssey

Behold every remote corner of our extraordinary playground on this epic, full-day odyssey on land and sea. We’ll pick you up in our new 4×4 custom safari vehicle for heart-pounding off-roading around Palmares estuary. At the mouth of the river, your morning activity is curated: from nature hiking and mountain biking to survival in the jungle. Then it’s back in the vehicle to zip through the secluded north peninsula for astounding ocean views. On Playa Zapotillal, play castaway where there’s rarely another soul. Swim, snorkel or SUP in the open ocean. Hang out in the hammocks and enjoy a gourmet lunch. Then board our boat for casting, fishing, spotting dolphins or beach hopping. Cruise the coastline, sea caves and islands until sunset, when we’ll drop you anywhere you choose. We also happily curate half days.

Biking the Backroads

Costa Rica’s rugged terrain is laced with beautiful backroads that wind in and out of farmland and forests—and this is your chance to explore them by bike. This journey (and many others) takes place on the Pacific side of Rincón de la Vieja. Beginning on a rural dirt road in Las Lilas, your ride takes a mild but steady climb up a volcanic slope, then heads off-road through cattle farms. You’ll stop for a farm-to-table lunch prepared by a local family and walk the farm to discover pigs, chickens, an organic garden and a hydroponic greenhouse. After lunch, your ride continues to the next town of Quebrada Grande. With bellies (and souls) full and satisfied, it’s all downhill from there.

Untamed River Rafting

If you’re looking for an adrenaline-filled whitewater rafting experience, plenty of excitement awaits on the Upper Tenorio River. Test your courage as you descend through 8 miles of tropical dry forest and pastures near the Tenorio Volcano. Where rich flora and fauna—like pumas, tapirs, howlers, bromeliads, palms and ferns—will be candy to your eyes. This winding, fast-moving river has it all—including Class III and IV rapids and a one-of-a-kind Class V 12-foot waterfall.

Family Trek

Bring the whole family to slow down and immerse in the wonders of the natural world on the Pacific side of RincĂłn de la Vieja. Your expert naturalist guide will have you chasing blue morpho butterflies, spotting toucans, searching for insects and watching mischievous white-faced monkeys play in the trees. As you round one of the final turns, follow the sound of cascading water to a hidden waterfall at Santa MarĂa Sector. Take a refreshing dip or let the kids splash around. Then enjoy a delicious riverside picnic.

Jungle Challenger

If you’re an avid hiker, this one’s for you. Experience the wonder of ACG biodiversity, traversing the Rincón de la Vieja complex of the Cordillera de Guanacaste. As you trek through the tropical dry forest at upper elevations, you’ll wind along rivers, streams and natural hot springs—seeing countless species and interactions along the way. Your final destination: a picturesque waterfall at the Santa María Sector, where you can dive into refreshing mountain waters, disconnect from the outside world and take in one of the most amazing natural environments on earth.

Biking the Volcano

In this radical mountain biking adventure in Rincon de la Vieja, the exotic is around every turn. You’ll glide along a single-track trail system and plunge through deep forest cover, over bridges, across rivers—and scream past breathtaking waterfalls while catching incredible views of an active volcano! You’ll be surrounded by white-faced and howler monkeys, coatis and armadillos.
