When the master developer began planning The Enclaves at Nacascolo Bay, the design brief was to evolve Ronald Zürcher’s highly successful Four Seasons Private Villa for today’s larger and more active multi-generational getaways. Over months of design development, thirty percent more floor area was added. Outdoor living space more than doubled. At the same time, materials with higher recycled content were added and density was reduced. With fewer residences, the separation of buildings increased dramatically. Zürcher’s reimagined built form morphed into a more substantial yet more sustainable Costa Rica getaway, with lower holding costs and a reduced carbon footprint.

Articulating History

In designing The Enclaves at Nacascolo Bay, Zürcher gives something back to a fortunate few — serenity, space, joy. A quality of calmness and freedom transcend line, color, and texture. Recalling the ceremonial metate used by Guanacaste’s ancient Chorotega, curved roof forms articulate history while gently guiding the eye to the tropical forest canopy overhead. Filled with wildlife, it is a wondrous place that engages a full spectrum of senses, with a movement and rhythm all its own.

Architect Ronald Zürcher shows his passion for nature and reverence for the Chorotega people with an organic planning approach that treads lightly on the land. Structures are integrated into their natural environment, minimizing site disturbance and preserving ecosystem services.
