To tap into the sophisticated splendors of Peninsula Papagayo is to be quickly seduced by the allure of a captivating 18-hole Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course…his premier venture in Costa Rica and in all of Latin America.
The rewards lie both in a memorable round of golf and an ecological tour through exotic flora and an abundance of curious fauna. Hugging diverse terrain borne of an ancient lava flow from distant Rincón de la Vieja, 6,788 yards wind their way through 125 acres of undulating fairways and greens. A variety of shots challenge players of all skill levels. Dramatic elevation changes stir the senses. Variegated terrain, ranging from forest to valley to seacliffs, ensures every fairway provides a major photo opportunity and every hole calls for a unique approach.
In a nod to Four Seasons extraordinary service culture, golf at Peninsula Papagayo is a tailored experience. Their attentive staff is at one’s service, whether on the course or at the extensive practice facility.
Planned for later development, Papagayo’s future Jack Nicklaus Design Course promises a true golf challenge—distinct yet complementary to the Palmer Course. Hugging a sheltered valley between Papagayo’s north and south peninsulas, the captivating par-72 layout takes its course from the path of majestic 200-year-old mangroves.
Roughly 7,100 yards offer varied elevations and views, from the top of a coastal plateau, through the wooded Palmares area, culminating along Bahía Huevos—a tranquil bay filled with graceful sailboat moorings and seabirds. A personal escape to the new Jack Nicklaus Design Course at Peninsula Papagayo will be yet another way to indulge one’s passion for the game in one of its most magical and memorable arena.
Game day begins and ends at Peninsula Papagayo’s elegant clubhouse overlooking Culebra Bay—architect Ronald Zürcher’s soaring ode to a conch shell. The 28,000 square foot facility includes the popular Caracol restaurant and bar, a members-only lounge, pro shop, men and women’s locker areas and administrative offices. Poised atop one of Peninsula Papagayo’s highest plateaus, Zürcher’s distinctive design showcases heart-pounding views of the Pacific Ocean, Bahía de Culebra and the scenic 18th green, providing an inviting home away from home where members and guests can relax and take in Four Seasons exceptional hospitality. By day (during high season), Caracol serves up a tantalizing selection of gourmet sandwiches, paninis, burgers, light salads and tempting snacks, as well as the chef’s daily specials.
