Building on the successful collaboration between Peninsula Papagayo and the Instituto Nacional de Aprendizaje (INA), Andaz joined the INA’s dual education program in August, supported by Creciendo Juntos and Mohari Hospitality. This expansion welcomed twelve new students, adding to the 25 students who graduated from the program after working at the Clubhouse at Prieta Beach over the past two years. Notably, two of last year’s graduates are expected to join the Club team for the upcoming high season.
After seven months of classroom learning, students begin an immersive five-month experience, guided by INA instructors. The program offers hands-on training in both culinary and service roles, with eight mentors from the Andaz team, alongside the Human Resources department, working closely with the students to foster skills in real-world settings.
Running from August through December, the program includes practical training in the kitchen and food and beverage areas. In the kitchen track, students develop core culinary skills, learning sanitation techniques, and both hot and cold food preparation. Students in the food and beverage track gain experience in key service areas such as plating, tableside preparation, sanitation, and essential sales and service techniques. This comprehensive training equips students with a strong foundation for professional work environments.
To ensure a well-rounded experience, students rotate through various departments, where they work closely with mentors and interact with guests. This approach builds confidence and provides them with the opportunity to refine their skills across all aspects of hotel service, from preparation to presentation.
“This partnership is about more than just technical skills,” says Franklin Quesada, Food & Beverage instructor at INA. “It’s about creating a supportive environment where students can learn, grow, and understand what it truly takes to provide an exceptional guest experience.”
By the end of the program, students will have gained valuable knowledge and hands-on experience, laying the groundwork for careers in hospitality. The program, guided by INA’s expertise, sets new standards in culinary and service education, ensuring that skilled, passionate professionals support the hospitality industry in Guanacaste.
“This is a valuable program where all parties benefit,” says Patrick Schori, General Manager of Andaz. “We’re helping develop these individuals while building a skilled workforce for the future. It’s a win for the institutions and for students, who gain enhanced skills and a golden opportunity for their future careers.”
As the tourism sector grows, programs like this bridge the gap between education and industry needs, offering students the chance to transform their education into rewarding careers. Through this collaboration, Peninsula Papagayo, Andaz and INA are paving the way for the next generation of hospitality professionals, emphasizing the value of practical, high-quality training for long-term success.
