Área de Conservación Guanacaste continues to reveal new dimensions of the natural world, reminding us that even after decades of research, this extraordinary landscape remains full of discovery.
Most recently, researchers identified a new species of marine worm at Playa Naranjo, an important finding that speaks to the depth and diversity of life within ACG, from the Pacific seafloor to mist-covered cloud forest canopies.
That same spirit of discovery continues on land. After more than 50 years of botanical inventory, researchers have documented over 4,100 of an estimated 5,500 to 6,000 plant species in ACG. Through the PlantNet app, supported in part by tens of thousands of field photographs contributed by ACG botanists and parataxonomists, this knowledge is becoming more accessible to scientists, students, and curious visitors alike. ACG is also developing its own Digital Flora, a platform that will further open this growing body of knowledge to the public through the ACG website.
