Peninsula Papagayo has released its 2025 Impact Report, offering a detailed look at the environmental, social, and governance progress shaping the future of the destination.
2025 Impact Report
Measuring what matters
Now in its fourth year completed according to Global Reporting Initiative standards, the report reflects Peninsula Papagayo’s continued commitment to measuring what matters, sharing progress openly, and holding itself accountable to the people and place it serves. More than a record of annual results, the report is a window into the work happening across the peninsula to balance world-class hospitality with conservation, community development, and responsible growth.
“At Peninsula Papagayo, sustainability cannot be reached through sporadic action, but through consistency, partnership, and long-term vision,” said Susana Vicente, Vice President of Sustainability. “Every honor we receive is an incentive to keep aiming higher.”

The 2025 report marks an important evolution in scope. For the first time, it reflects a broader picture of ESG performance across Peninsula Papagayo, including the master developer, Marina Papagayo, Four Seasons Resort, Andaz Resort, and Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, which officially joined the community in 2025.
Highlights from the year point to both measurable progress and deepening ambition. Peninsula Papagayo registered 1,038 species, a 12.5 percent increase over 2024, while 11,000 coral fragments are now growing in situ as part of ongoing reef restoration efforts. The destination also created 11 wildlife corridors and six green bridges, processed 173.25 tons of organic waste, and met 21 percent of irrigation needs with treated water. Three properties are now ISO 50001:2018 certified, underscoring continued focus on energy management and operational efficiency.
The report also reflects the human side of sustainability. In 2025, 140 resort staff participated in English lessons, resulting in four promotions, while 4,293 people used the Technology Hub, a 35 percent increase from the previous year. Through community investment, training, and local partnerships, Peninsula Papagayo continues to strengthen pathways for education, employment, and opportunity throughout Guanacaste.
This year’s report arrives after a landmark moment for the destination, which received two international honors at the World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards: World’s Leading Sustainable Community Empowerment Programme and World’s Leading Sustainable Hotel or Resort Development.

Together, these milestones reinforce a vision that has guided Peninsula Papagayo for decades: that luxury tourism can be a force for long-term value when it protects nature, supports communities, and grows with purpose.
